Flat Roof

Karelson construction is a commercial and residential flat roof specialist.

Flat roofs are not absolutely flat, it has a little slope about 1/4 to 1/2 inch per foot for water to drain easily. Ony this much of slope is equivalent to no slope at all, so it holds snow and water much longer than a steep roof. Therefore flat roofs require different materials that can hold water without seepage. Usually, the standard sloped roofs have shingles overlapped like fish scales to prevent water from seeping down. A flat roof design is in continuous patterns that can hold some standing water for a limited time.

There are three main types of flat roof systems:

  • Membrane or single-ply
  • Built-up roofing (BUR)
  • Modified bitumen (MBR)
